To most of us the topic of radiators might seem like a bit of a dull topic. They aren’t the first thing I think of when I wake up, or the second for that matter. Not only that, but radiators can also be a dull component in your home. This week I’m going to end this nonsense, and (ideally) make radiators the talk of the office.
You’ll be surprised by how great that metal thing under the window can look with just a little love and attention.

Put some photos round it
How easy is this? One of my favourite things to do is collect postcards from the places I’ve been – whether it’s an art gallery or a Greek island, I’ll always bring home a postcard to put on my wall. Surrounding your radiator with photos makes it into an accessory itself, and makes it feel part of the room rather than an overlooked bit of warm metal.

Put some stuff on it
What’s a radiator for if not to be used as a lovely plant ledge in summer? This might not be the best idea in winter, but a radiator is the perfect place to balance your plants – especially if it’s under the window sill so plenty of light can get to it. Just remember to remove them when you switch the heating on, or you’ll have some very dead, melted plants lying around.

Paint it bright
There’s no better, cheaper or easier way of brightening up a grey room than painting your radiator a bright, bold colour. It will instantly become the focal point and will give your room a quirky, vintage vibe that would make any young professional in East London choke on their flat white with envy.

Vintage it up
Embrace the origins of radiators by keeping the old, chipped off paint. It’s a great way of bringing to life the reclaimed vintage trend, and you can find these old radiators anywhere on eBay. They’re cheap and they look fantastic.
