I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Winter is upon us, and as it starts to get dark at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, it’s time to think about sprucing up your home for winter.
If, like me, you don’t want to fully acknowledge that it’s winter you might want to think about buying winter appropriate accessories that can be removed as soon as the sun comes out again next July.
…Which leads me to rugs. Hard wood flooring is less than tempting to walk on when the mornings get frosty, and a rug is an inexpensive and easy solution to keep your tootsies warm and help retain the heat that might otherwise get lost through the floor boards.

A bright rug will bring bit of cheer to those miserable winter evenings (can you tell I don’t like winter?), and the white wooden floor will make your home look as though it’s in a constant state of summer.

A lovely bright rug in the hallway will be a warm greeting to guests, and will help your home feel extra cosy. Visit nearby second hand or vintage shops to get something a little like the above – a timeless classic.

I love this look. The room is bright and spacious and the mis-matched rugs give it a very modern and laid-back edge. You can re-create this look easily – or go a step further and buy mis-matched patterned rugs in complimenting colours.

The bedroom is arguably the most important place to feel cosy. It’s hard to wake up at 7am on those dark winter mornings, and to have a warm rug under your feet before your slog to the bathroom really makes a difference. I’m a sucker for these faded vintage rugs as I think they show real character, and it looks fantastic paired with the beautiful emerald bedspread.
