Accessory of the Week: Bookshelves

September 17th, 2013 by Debbie

Bookshelves are a must-have in anyone’s home, yet they’re often in unimaginative rectangles and can make your room feel cramped. If you’re looking for somewhere to store your ever-growing book collection but don’t want a drab block of wood in the corner of your room, look no further than the contents of this post!

Citybook Modern Modular Bookshelf

Let’s start with a zinger. This bookshelf/piece of modern art is the design-child of Antonella Di Luca, a designer from Bologna, Italy. The bookshelf is made in either white or gray sheet iron, and can be arranged by your good selves if you want to mix it up little.

My favourite thing about this piece of design is that it doesn’t have to be limited to books – you can add accessories in to liven up the unit. You can purchase this bookshelf from Antonella’s website.

Zig Zag Bookshelf

This puts the ‘oo’ in bookshelf am I right? I love how the design can hold anything from books to magazines to model airplanes. It would work really well in an industrial chic space or in a white room that is in need of a statement piece. You can find this bookshelf at Chiasso.

If it were mine I would build a papier maché fireman to climb up one of the little ladders.

Floating Bookshelf

Here’s one you can do at home. Floating bookshelves look modern, innovative and are easy to put up by yourself. All you need to do is buy as many shelves as you need and hook them into the wall and before you can say Wuthering Heights you have a beautiful new bookshelf!

This look is ideal if you don’t want to stick to the conventions of a rectangular bookshelf and you want to create a contemporary feel to your space. It’s also an eye-catching way of showing off your extensive literary library (just pop
50 Shades down the back).
