Decorating for autumn
October 13th, 2014 by DebbieThere’s always a fresh new feeling in the air when the seasons change, especially when it’s as drastic as it is in England.
Summer never gently passes into autumn… It always happens very suddenly – you wake up one morning and the air is crisp and you accidentally go to work in your summer dress and feel totally inappropriate and swear to yourself that you’ll never make that mistake again. It happens every year, inevitably.
On a similar note, it’s important not to let your home malfunction along with your wardrobe. Here are a few quick and easy ideas to transition your decor from summer to autumn…

Conkers
Embrace what autumn naturally brings – there’s no need to paint your walls auburn or mauve when you can just bring colours from the outside in. Fill a plain, glass vase full of conkers that you gather on a lazy Sunday walk. Add some fresh, autumnal flowers and you’ll have a beautiful centrepiece to suit the season.

Colours and patterns
The beautiful colours make autumn one of my favourite seasons. You can find them anywhere, so dig around amongst your old rugs and cushions and you’ll find a plethora of colours to match the season. Deep reds, blues, greens and oranges are a great way of bringing the textures and hues into your home.

Apple candles
They’ll only last 8 minutes but this is a gorgeous way of decorating a table for an autumn dinner party. Simply hollow out an apple and stick a tea candle in there. They’ll smell delicious and it’s so simple and super cheap.

Blankets
Don’t forget to bring your old blankets out of the cupboard, or, if you’re a little bored of the ones from last year, treat yourself to some lovely thick new ones. Nothing makes a home cosier or more prepared for winter than a nice pile of blankets.
