Greek Interiors

January 12th, 2014 by Debbie

I can feel a pattern emerging this month within my posts. I’m doing everything I can to take my mind off the horrible weather and look ahead to the adventures of summer, so bright, cheery posts will be coming your way.

One of the top trends of 2013 was Scandinivian interiors. I predict that Greek style will come into fashion this year. Greek homes are all about shed-loads of light, bright colours, simple design and cramming in as much nature as possible. That includes flowers, house plants and wood everywhere. So forget about the January blues and get a bit of Greek in your home!

The Kitchen

It’s so easy to imagine yourself chopping up a fresh Greek salad in this beautifully spacious kitchen. Take note of the simple, white walls and splashed of wood around the room to give the space an authentic feel. If the colour scheme feels too basic, you could add a splash of colour to the kitchen cupboards. I’d go for sky blue.

The Living Room

Greek culture is all about sharing. Greek food is supposed to be shared with friends and family,  and the layout of Greek homes is testament to this part of their culture. You won’t find individual chairs lined up next to each other, but great big day beds where you can sit and chatter, and sofas designed to be shared. I love the stone walls of this room and the fire place and wooden ceiling add to the Grecian authenticity.

The Bedroom

Although it might be hard to replicate this in your home back in England, I couldn’t resist putting it in. You can take some great ideas from this though – I love the idea of the bed being built into a concrete stand, and the bright white beams make the room look very spacious. If those beams were brown the room would look much smaller.

The Bathroom

This is a truly authentic Greek bathroom. The huge Greek urn could be used for anything from storing water to  a quirky place to keep towels. A common sight in a Greek bathroom is a wooden ladder, which leans against the wall and can be used as a towel rack. It’s a genius storage solution and will make your bathroom look really unique.
