London’s Best Christmas Markets

November 13th, 2013 by Debbie

Excuse the rush of Christmas posts recently, but I refuse to be caught off guard this year.

Most years it’ll reach December 23rd when I realise I’ve completely forgotten to add Aunt Jan to my Christmas list. By then all London transport will have shut down for no apparent reason. As a result I’ll wrap up a pair of clean (used) socks and a tea candle, and grit my teeth as she tries to hide her disappointment and feign any enthusiasm upon opening it. Once, as she opened it, her own cat vomited on her shoe.

Not this year, folks. Here’s my pick of the best Christmas markets in London so Aunt Jan can get the hand-crafted tea towel she’s longed for all these years.

Christmas Fair at Chelsea Psychic Garden

Take the family to visit London’s oldest Botanic Garden, right in the heart of Chelsea. This fair is a real treat and is the perfect opportunity to grab some genuinely unique pressies for loved ones. From jewellery to ceramics to delicious chocolates, you’ll be able to find a gift for even the most obscure tastes.

It’s for one weekend only – Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December – so make sure you don’t miss out. There’s even a fab crafty family workshop where you can make cards, decorations and lovely gifts.

Belgravia Christmas Market at Elizabeth Street and Pimlico Road

Are you free on Sunday 1st December? Good, because this market is unmissable. Shoppers can expect to be entertained by Christmas music performed by choirs, and Pimlico Road will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Enjoy the fantastic cuisine, brass bands and even balloon modellers. Top notch family fun!

Handmade Christmas

If you’re into all things crafty, this is the market for you. Handmade Christmas takes place at the O2 right in the middle of December, so you can find that perfect gift for your loved ones. Expect to see Britain’s brightest and most talented designers, crafters and hobbyists; not to mention the food and drink available. Who needs Oxford Street anyway?

Crafty Fox Christmas Market

Hosted in Brixton’s Dogstar on 7th and 8th December and in Peckham’s Bussey Building on 14th December, Crafty Fox Markets feature a whole new cast of designers and artists works each day, show-casing up to 120 home-grown makers. Not only will there be some fantastic crafty stalls, but there’s also some fabulous workshops available as well as a pop-up tea-room, gift-wrapping lessons (they’ll definitely come in handy), DJ’s, drinks and snacks. I’ll certainly be there!
