Open plan homes

November 5th, 2014 by Debbie

Open plan layouts in the home always give the impression of more space. Often when moving house, people will knock down walls to make one big room. I know I’d rather have one large room than two little ones – who uses a dining room these days anyway?

Here are a few examples of the different ways you can lay out your open plan room…

Mix it up

This barn conversion means you can have your dining room, kitchen and bedroom all in one place. I love the huge windows and wonderful high ceilings. Although this may get chilly in winter, it’s super stylish and you can move your furniture around whenever you like to keep the look fresh.

Use a partition

If your open space seems a bit overwhelming, use partitions and screens to split it up. I love this 60’s retro screen, which adds a bit of character while sectioning off the seating area from the bar.

Extend your conservatory

A great way of giving your home an open plan look is to knock through that pesky conservatory and extend your kitchen and living area. Let’s face it – no one uses a conservatory anymore, and a massive kitchen looks way better. To make your space look even bigger, paint the room white and break it up with paintings and accessories.

Open plan bedroom

It’s not the cosiest bedroom in the world, but it could be one of the coolest. Having your bed in an open plan cove is super modern, and this New York loft is no exception. The cloud feature wall adds some warmth to the space, especially with the uber thick rug.open plan bedroom
