Paint your home happy

January 7th, 2014 by Debbie

There’s no need to go over the reasons why January is the worst month ever, but I will anyway. No money, clothes don’t fit, cold, raining, nothing to look forward to, misery.

But that will all feel like a distant memory after you read this post. Did you know that the colour of your bedroom can severely effect your mood? Did you know that the colour red can make you want to gamble? That green suppresses your appetite? When the council changed street lights to blue in Glasgow in 2000, crime went down significantly. Take a look at what a small change in colour can do for your home…

Boost your energy with violet

Violet is alleged to get your adrenaline going (don’t quote me on that). If you feel like your morning needs a bit of a boost, you should seriously consider painting your bathroom violet. You don’t have to go mad – you could add splashes here and there and who knows – you might find yourself skipping to work.

Be happy with yellow

Not to state the obvious, but yellow makes people super happy. That’s why people put Daffodil’s in their houses when they’re trying to sell it. It reminds us of sunshine and spring and all the things that January doesn’t represent – so do yourself a huge favour and paint your kitchen yellow.

Calm down with blue

As you find yourself crushed between two fellow commuters tomorrow morning, wretched and miserable, imagine lying on a beautiful beach. Imagine the clear blue sky above, unashamedly bare, and  the sigh of the green blue sea as it sporadically laps at your toes. Do you feel calm now? Good. Now imagine if you painted your bedroom that colour and how calm you’d always feel.

Feel empowered with black

The colour black has a bad rep – it soaks up all colours in the spectrum and is associated with death, crime and loss. However, did you know it’s a sign of empowerment in some countries? If used in the right way, it can make your living room look damn cool, and make you feel super powerful at the same time.
