As the cold weather sets in, I can’t help but think about all the out-of-use fireplaces all over the UK. There’s nothing like a hearty fire on a cold winter’s day – every place I’ve lived there’s been beautiful fireplaces that have been reduced to ornaments. Restoring your fireplace isn’t impossible – you can hire fire restorators like PJ & Son in London to bring that magical place back to life.
If this sounds too time consuming, there are loads of other ways of heating up your home and bringing a lovely, cosy atmosphere to your house this Christmas. Here are a few ideas to get you going…

Wood-burning stove
Purchase a wood burning stove to add a little fire to your home. You will still need to restore the chimney but it won’t be quite as complicated as restoring the entire fireplace. I love this vintage stove paired with the rustic wood – it’ll make your entire home cosy and stylish.

Candle light
This is a great way of adding the warmth of a fire to your home without actually having to do more than buy a few lovely candles. I love this idea – get some mis-matched sizes to add variety and if you want to treat yourself get some scented candles. Genius!

In the bedroom
A great place to focus your efforts this winter is in the bedroom. Restoring your fireplace will keep you cosy throughout winter, and it means you can go to sleep with the warm glow of the fire. Most houses in the UK have a fireplace in each room, so why not start with the warmest place in the house?

Antique restoration
This is a true antique fireplace that has been restored. There’s nothing like these original fixtures to transform you back to the days of Dickens at Christmas time – all you need now is a few stockings and some snow.
